Where is Sloterdijk Station Amsterdam
Sloterdijk station is located in the western part of Amsterdam, in the borough of Westpoort. The station is situated on the west side of the city’s ring road, the A10, and is easily accessible by car, bike, and public transportation.
The station is located about 5 kilometers from Amsterdam’s city center and Amsterdam Centraal Station, and can be reached by train, metro, bus, and tram within 5-10 minutes.

Once in Sloterdijk you may need tickets for your journey into central Amsterdam, the most commonly used is the GVB ticket that gives you access to all of Amsterdam’s public transport.

Coaches to Amsterdam from London
The cheapest way to get to Amsterdam from London is by coach. Various companies offer this service including Flixbus, National Express and BlaBlaBus. The coaches leave from London Victoria Coach Station and arrive around 12-13hrs later in Sloterdijk Bus Station.
It is then very easy to jump on Amsterdam’s public transport and head into the city centre.

Sloterdijk Station History
Amsterdam Sloterdijk station was opened in 1956 as a replacement for the former Haarlemmerpoort station, which was closed due to its deteriorating condition. The new station was built on the same location as the old one, and was designed by the Dutch architect Koen van der Gaast. The station was initially built to serve as a local train station, but it soon became an important transportation hub, helping Amsterdam connect to other cities in the Netherlands and Europe.
Sloterdijk P+R
As Sloterdijk is a major hub and route into central Amsterdam, it is a logical place for one of the many Amsterdam park and ride facilities located on the outskirts of the city. Sloterdijk P R is popular as it has such good connections to the rest of Amsterdam, opening up lots of options for those travelling into Amsterdam by car, but not wishing to drive in the city centre.
Sloterdijk is a major transport hub in Amsterdam. Any UK visitors coming by coach will find this is their first taste of Amsterdam.
What is there to do in Sloterdijk?
Amsterdam Sloterdijk is more of a commercial and residential area and is not particularly well known for its tourist attractions. However, there are a few interesting things to see and do in the area or nearby:
- Fabrique Des Lumieres: This stunning visual and audio experience is just 2.6km away and well worth a visit on the way into Amsterdam city centre. You could walk there in 30 minutes or it’s 7-10 mins on public transport.
- Amsterdam Sloterdijk Station: A modern train station that serves as a major transport hub, connecting Amsterdam to other parts of the Netherlands and Europe.
- The Bretten: A large green area on the outskirts of Sloterdijk, which is a popular spot for cycling, walking, and picnics.
- Sloterpark: A large park located to the west of Sloterdijk, popular for walking and cycling, its lake, and several sports facilities.
While Sloterdijk may not be a popular tourist destination in Amsterdam, it is well-connected to other parts of the city and offers easy access to other attractions, such as the famous museums, historic canals, and vibrant nightlife in the city center.
