There are a huge number of factors involved when travelling by any form of transport. It would be easy to initially assume that coach travel would be the cheapest form of travel but depending on your booking time, it can be relatively similar in cost to the low-budget airlines or it can be vastly cheaper. It can take 12hrs 45 mins to reach Amsterdam from London. You do though travel in luxury and trips tend to go through the night. so, you could be asleep for most of the journey, arriving refreshed.
Victoria Coach Station in London
If you are booking a coach to Amsterdam from London then you’ll find yourself leaving from the London Victoria Coach Station. This is where all the UK tours and scheduled coach journey’s across the UK and Europe from London originate. There are other major UK cities that travel direct to Amsterdam including Manchester for example.
Victoria coach station is a big bustling hub for coach transfers and is very close to Victoria train station, so is easy to get to using trains and public transport. If you arrive from Amsterdam to London by coach you can easily make your way to the rest of London using public transport.
Victoria Coach Station is located in the central district of Victoria along Buckingham Palace Road. Unsurprisingly Buckingham Palace is on this road and you can walk there, though probably not recommended with lots of suitcases. Green Park and Hyde Park tubes are close to the Palace too.
Victoria Coach Station is open 24-hrs with the ticket office open between 8am and 9pm daily.
It is recommended to arrive for your coach early, although some coaches only require you to be there no later than 10 minutes before departure. For a European destination, you’ll definitely need to be there earlier than 10-minutes for passport checks etc, so do check your ticket for exact information on checking in.
Get to Amsterdam by coach and arrive at Sloterdijk station
Coach services are often rebranded or taken over. Eurolines was once the prevalent company but was taken over by Flixbus, expanding it’s network in the process. There are additional companies such as National Express in the UK and BlaBlaBus which used to be OuiBus. These are the main coach services that serve Amsterdam.
Nearly all the coach services stop or end at Sloterdijk Station. This is in the west of Amsterdam and only 5 minutes by metro from Centraal Station, the main transport hub of Amsterdam. Therefore you can arrive into Amsterdam on your coach and be exploring the historic city in just a few minutes.
It is more likely that if you are taking a coach from London (as an example), that you will be staying in a hotel for at least a night. There are hotels near to the station but as Amsterdam is a compact city, it really does not matter if you decide to stay somewhere else in the city. It is just as easy to return to Sloterdijk station after your break, using the public transport from most places in Amsterdam.
