Amsterdam Dungeon. Be afraid, be very afraid
One of the most popular non-art attractions in Amsterdam
The Amsterdam Dungeon is run by Merlin who also look after the London Dungeon and other city dungeon attractions around the world. Now, dungeons in theory are very similar, but the history of the host country is not. So, even if you have visited the London Dungeon before, you can still find out a lot about Amsterdam and experience new scares and thrills at the dungeon in Amsterdam. If you have not visited one at all before then it is an experience you’ll remember.

What will you experience in the dungeon?
The dungeon runs to a tried and tested formula and one that works. It is filled with dedicated actors who make the incredible sets come alive, so that you really do feel you are travelling back in time.
As you enter you are taken to a lift that descends you into the darkness of the dungeon and it is here your senses will come alive as they are overwhelmed by visual, sound and smell stimuli.
There are various sections of the dungeon where you meet new characters and learn about the history of dungeons in Amsterdam in a very interactive way. There is also plenty of audience participation, so expect to be picked upon during your tour.
You’ll visit the Torture Chamber, meet the Torturer, try and survive the Flying Dutchman captains return in a rough bar. Visit the theatre of Doctor Deyman and see the corpse of Black John, experience the Spanish Inquisition (not the Monty Python one), the Gallow Fields filled with death sentence inmates and murder on the Zeedik.
There are usually special events or short term additions to the core dungeon experience as well.
The overall experience is great if you are in a friend group or family with teenagers and the interaction with the actors really sells the tickets here. You will have a great laugh, get some cool pictures and the odd scare jump or two.
A pretty good way to spend an hour or so in our opinion.
