Ice Bar Amsterdam

Experience a drink at a bar made of ice

Another James Bond nod in Amsterdam (the other being the Skinny Bridge), the Ice Bar Amsterdam is the kind of must-do bucket list drinking spot that is an instagrammer’s heaven and cool experience hard to replicate.

Just off Rembrandtplein it’s perfectly located in the city centre to start a great night out or end one.

Whats Ice bar Amsterdam like?

Harping back to the 007 fans that we are, if you can remember Die Another Day and the palace made from ice, then you are half way there.

The Xtracold Icebar Amsterdam is a combination of a lounge and bar. The lounge is a lovely warm bar area where you can linger, chat and have cocktails or a beer, whilst you wait for your slot in the actual ice bar.

When its your turn you are supplied with nice big coats and gloves (clueing you in on the coldness to come) and enter the ice bar. This bar is kept at -10c and virtually everything is made from ice. Not only is it very beautiful and tactile with DJ music and the lights bouncing off and shining through the ice, its a bar like no other.

Here you’ll get to drink out of a glass made of ice, sit on ice furniture and see the bar made from 30 tonnes of ice.

Unfortunately your stay here is not that long as the experience only lasts around 20 minutes, but you’ll have time to enjoy your included drinks and probably be ready to be warmed up by then anyway.

The Ice Bar opens in the afternoon, which clearly shows it is an experience/attraction as well as a bar. You can visit it anytime you want, though evening visits will sell out quicker as will Friday and Saturday nights.

A great place to experience at anytime or an ideal end or start of a night out – shaken but not stirred.

If this has wetted your appetite for alcohol related experiences then you should also visit House of Bols to discover the glamorous world of cocktails (located in Museumplein) and The Heineken Experience, also close by.
