The Johan Cruijff ArenA (formerly known as Amsterdam Arena) is home to Dutch football with Ajax and the national team playing here, you will also have seen a few encounters from the delayed Euro 2020 played here. Visiting Johan Cruijff ArenA

If you are in Amsterdam during the football season you might be lucky enough to be able to catch an Ajax home match at the stadium. This would be a fantastic experience with an amazing atmosphere to sweep you up. You would need to check the Ajax fixtures in advance and tickets might be harder to come by, but not impossibly so. If Ajax are not playing, do not forget to check the Dutch National football teams schedule too as you may find an out of season friendly or warm up game is being hosted. 

There is also t he possibility of a concert being held at the ArenA whilst you are staying in Amsterdam so it is definitely worth checking what is on and when.

For all other times, visitors will make use of the stadium tours designed to give an insight into the running of the stadium along with pitch-side access and entry to other areas that are usually out of bounds. The Amsterdam Arena has a variety of different tours you can take.

Johan Cruijff ArenA Stadium 75-minute tour

On this tour you will get to explore the stadium supported by a Dutch or English speaking guide. It is certainly a place to bring your camera, as you will be allowed access to exclusive areas like changing rooms, the tunnel and dug-out alongside the pitch. Do bear in mind that if the players are training or there is a match on that day your access or times of tour may be slightly limited.

Tickets also give you 10% discount at Official Ajax Fanshop and Febo Boulevard. You need to bring your own set of headphones for this tour.

VIP tour of Johan Cruijff ArenA

For a little more money you can take the VIP tour which again gives you access to the exclusive areas like changing rooms and dugouts, but also takes you to the boardroom and a skybox for some of the best views in the house. There is a free soft drink in the skybox, as well as a free and unique Johan Cruijff ArenA scarf.

This tour lasts a little longer at 2 hours and is in English or Dutch.

Train and Metro are the best ways to get to the Amsterdam Arena

Johan Cruijff ArenA is not in central Amsterdam, it is situated to the south-east of Amsterdam within an office/retail park that also houses a cinema complex, concert halls, large shops and the Ziggo Dome. The closest station to the Yohan Cruijff stadium is Bijlmer ArenA which is right next to it. You can get to this station in around 15 minutes from Amsterdam Central Station using metro line 54.

Events at Johan Cruijff ArenA

It is not just football that is hosted at this huge stadium. With a large capacity, the stadium also hosts pop concerts throughout the year along with business events, conferences and expo’s. The current calendar is limited due to Coronavirus, but as things open up again this will change.

It is certainly worth checking your visit dates to Amsterdam with what events are on at the ArenA. You might find an amazing night out is just a few minutes away.
